Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Author:Emma Lazarus’ Famous Poem
This poem has a meaning of freedom. It's suppose to inspire inmigrants that they are welcomed in this country, that this home is to all. But the actual reality is that this is not true. My question is that why does this lady stand alone? We are all suppose to be honoring her and we're not. If it was actually true that this country welcomes everyone then why are we rejecting everyone from our country? We are not really welcoming them we are just pushing them away. This poem does have a meaning and maybe did try to make a difference, but us as americans have crushed all of that. This beautiful lady tries to make a change, we need to honor her, and actually make that change real, because she is represnting our country in saying that we will make that change. I just want to see it happen.
